New blog and first post, so here is a free fingerless mitt knitting pattern. Size S/M/L - 7 (8/9)” around the palm. Figures for M/L sizes are in parenthesis. Materials required:
Gauge is 5/6 sts = 1”. Directions (same for both mitts) On 3.5mm needles cast on 36 (42/48) sts (long tail cast on ) and divide onto three needles. Row 1: Knit 1 row. Row 2: *K2. K1, P1, K1, P1 into same stitch. Turn to WS. Sl1 pw, P3. Turn to RS. Sl1 pw, K3. Turn to WS. P2tog, P2tog. Turn to RS. K2tog. ** Repeat from * to ** 11 (13/15) times. Row 3: Knit 10 rows. Row 13: Purl row. Right Mitt: Row 14: *K1, P1, K1, into same stitch. P3tog.** Repeat from * to ** once. K4(6/8). Repeat from * to ** 6(7/8) times. Row 15: P8. K4(6/8). P24. Row 16: * P3tog. K1, P1, K1 into same stitch. ** Repeat from * to ** once. K4(6/8). Repeat from * to ** 6(7/8) times. Row 17: P8. K4(6/8). P24. Row 18: Repeat rows 14 to 16. Left Mitt Row 14: *K1, P1, K1, into same stitch. P3tog.** Repeat from * to ** 7(8/9) times. K4(6/8). Repeat from * to ** once. Row 15: P24(28/32). K4(6/8). P8. Row 16: * P3tog. K1, P1, K1 into same stitch. ** Repeat from * to ** 6(7/8) times. K4(6/8). Repeat from * to ** once. Row 17: P24(28/32). K4(6/8). P8. Row 18: Repeat rows 14 to 16. Both Mitts Row 21: Purl row. Row 22: Knit 3 rows. Thumb Gusset On 4.5mm needles: Row 25: K20. PM. K2. PM. K14 (20/26). Row 26: K20. Slip marker and M1tbl. K to last st before 2nd marker. M1tbl. Slip marker. K14 (20/26). Row 27: Knit row. Repeat rows 26 and 27 five more times until 14 sts are between markers. Row 38: K20. Slip marker off. Slip first st from thumb gusset onto right needle. Place 13 sts for thumb gusset onto stitch holder. Replace slipped stitch from right needle back to left needle. With 'Backwards Loop Cast On' cast on 2 st to right needle. K2tog. Knit to end of row. Total live stitches on needles are now 36 (42/48). Row 39: Knit 6 rows. Row 45: Purl row. Row 46: Repeat rows 14 to 16 twice for right/left mitt accordingly. Row 53: Purl row. Row 54: Knit 3 rows. On 3.5mm needles: Row 57: Knit 3 rows. Row 60: K2. Sl first knitted st over 2nd knitted st on right needle. *K1, P1, K1, P1 into same stitch. Turn to WS. Sl1 pw, P3. Turn to RS. Sl1 pw, K3. Turn to WS. P2tog, P2tog. Turn to RS. K2tog.*** Sl first knitted st over 2nd knitted st (last remaining bobble stitch) on right needle. K1. Sl first knitted st (last remaining bobble stitch) over 2nd knitted st on right needle. K1. Sl first knitted st over 2nd knitted st on right needle.** Repeat from * to ** 10 (12/14) times. Repeat * to *** once. Sl first knitted st over 2nd knitted st (last remaining bobble stitch) on right needle. Cut working yarn allowing enough yarn (tail) for weaving in securely. Slip last stitch off right needle and pull tail through back of stitch loop tightly. For thumb (same for both mitts) On 4.5mm needles: Pick up stitches (13) from stitch holder and pick up 2 new cast on stitches from the palm side of thumb hole. Row 1: Knit 5 rows (leave a long tail of working yarn allowing enough for finishing). Row 6: Purl 2 rows. Row 8: Purl loose bind off. Weave in all ends.
